N.J. photographer: Capitol riot ‘the craziest day of my entire life.’ See his photos.


As police deployed a flash-bang grenade to try to break up a mob of Trump supporters rioting at the U.S. Capitol, photographer Mel D. Cole had a sobering thought:

“I could be trampled to death.”

If the crush of people around him panicked, things could change in a moment.

“Anything could happen right now because this is the craziest day of my entire life,” he told himself.

Cole, 44, sent a message to those at home.

“If something happens to me, I love you.”

Thousands of pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday and breached Congress, causing lawmakers to flee and resulting in the death of five people.
